The challenge
To redesign a bike safe shelter to allow export along with a compact packaging and easy assembly on-site.
The solution
The biggest challenge in this exercise was to allow fast on-site assembly by untrained mechanics. The core of the problem was the big tolerance of more than 14 mm on the main parts, the rolled profiles, on which all the remaining components are positioned. By positioning the oval shaped profiles in a clever way before creating holes in their walls, their inaccuracy was bypassed. This avoids all on-site fine-tuning that required a lot of skill. Another important trick to improve the business is the packaging method.
As easy to build as a an IKEA closet
The strong profiles themselves replace the cardboard box and protect the delicate sheet metal parts inside, which produces very compact, strong and cheap packaging. This solved the unacceptable high costs of damaged deliveries rejected by customers. The design was realized according to DIN, ADAC and SKG rules, resulted in cost savings of 20% and was thoroughly tested for a long service life.
